Hwadam Forest is an ecological arboretum located in Gwangju, Gyeonggi Province, 40 minutes away from Seoul. With an emphasis on restoring the ecosystem of our forest, the LG Evergreen Foundation has created 16 theme gardens with more than 4,300 species of native and introduced plants from Korea and abroad on a 165,265㎡ (about 50,000 pyeong).
Hwadam Forest's Hwadam means "talking about it kindly," and Hwadam Forest aims for an ecological space where humans and nature can communicate. We preserved the vegetation of our forest as much as possible and decorated it as an eco-friendly ecological space for anyone who loves nature to find it comfortably. In addition, thanks to the nature's topography and vegetation as much as possible, you can see a variety of trees that are naturally located along the valleys and ridges of Nogobong Peak. It is gaining huge popularity among family visitors by making the entire 5km walkway a gentle slope so that people with disabilities, the elderly, and children can comfortably enjoy nature in strollers or wheelchairs to heal themselves even if they want to take a walk.
The main theme gardens include the largest moss garden in Korea, the birch forest/hope stone tower with more than 1,000 white birch trees, and the bonsai garden displaying 250 luxury bonsai items. You can also see some 480 maple trees, the largest variety in Korea, and beautiful flowers and trees that can be found in our forest. As part of the biodiversity restoration project, Hwadam Forest, along with the National Park Service, is also researching and developing a habitat environment for ecological restoration of endangered species such as fireflies and wonangs that grow in Korea.
Thanks to these ecological restoration efforts, you can easily encounter salamanders, hedgehogs, and squirrels that are familiar to us throughout Hwadam Forest. In addition, it operates a freshwater fish ecology hall and an insect experience hall. Hwadam Forest has an online pre-booking system that is 100% based on the number of admission slots per hour for pleasant and leisurely viewing. In addition, the monorail boarding system, which allows elderly and children with limited mobility to view comfortably, is also operated on an online pre-booking system, making it more convenient to view.
