Aerophone

The flute is a major woodwind instrument that makes up the Western orchestra along with the clarinet, oboe, and bassoon.

Today, the flute, made of various metals such as nickel, gold, silver, and platinum, is still included in woodwind instruments because of the principle of vocalization, which is another criterion for distinguishing between woodwind and brass instruments.

The difference between a woodwind and a brass instrument lies not only in the material but also in the way they make sound. A brass instrument puts the entire lips on a cup-shaped mouthpiece and blows it directly to make sound by vibrating the air in the pipe using the vibration.

On the other hand, woodwind instruments such as the clarinet, oboe, and bassoon make sound through a separate vibration plate called reed. Among woodwind instruments, the flute is introduced into a small oval hole to vibrate the air column in the pipe to make sound.
